Damian Slizys

Damian Slizys

Damian is a successful investor in early-stage life sciences and technology companies, investing in founders and technology known to him through his networks. His private investments in the space have netted returns of 12x and 6x over a period of five years and four years respectively.

He has been a registered patent attorney for over twenty years and was formerly an equity partner of a top tier patent attorney firm and in-house IP director for a high-profile life sciences company. He has received many accolades as a patent attorney including being recognised as a Best LawyerTM in Australia for his expertise in Intellectual Property Law as well as a Managing IPTM Star by Managing Intellectual Property over the course of many years.

Before joining the patent profession, Dr Slizys gained a PhD in chemistry and was a lecturer in medicinal chemistry with a particular focus on the physical properties of drugs and the chemistry of medical diagnostic techniques.

Julian Chick

Julian Chick

Julian has over 25 years of experience in the biotechnology and medical technology sectors, as well as in investment banking. Julian ran a public life sciences portfolio for 4 years at BCIF which returned an average of 32% per annum for the 4 years. During this time, he was known for identifying emerging sub-sectors and the leading companies in this space as well as identifying like acquisition targets in Life Sciences.

He also managed assets during his time Smith Barney, BNP and Prudential Bache. Julian also spent 4.5 years as a life sciences specialist investment banker at WG Partners. Julian has also been involved in 16 life science start up companies. He has a PhD from La Trobe University / Oxford University.

Julian has held senior executive roles and directorships at several Australian and international life science companies, both listed and private, including Avexa Ltd (ASX:AVX), Opyl Ltd (ASX:OPL) and Admedus Ltd (ASX:AHZ) and currently is Chair of CANN Group (ASX:CAN).

Ryder Widdowson

Ryder Widdowson

During Ryder’s 30 year career in the financial services sector, he has been the responsible manager of two registered Australian financial Services License holders with a primary focus on investment and long-term retirement outcomes. His clients have ranged from individual family operations to complex corporate defined benefit pension plans with multiple stake holders. This background has given him a particular insight into the expectations and motivations of investors and founders and a flair for explaining complex financial concepts.

His formative South African years as a managing consultant in a listed actuarial firm exposed him to the challenges of working with stakeholders holding strong and differing political motivations. Ryder is a passionate believer in value-creation and empowerment through emerging business and innovation but champions an uncomplicated approach to structure and governance.
